The material library

Our Materials

We work with two natural stones, marble and travertine, and with zellige, a glazed clay tile, chosen for their character, proportion and suitability for furniture.

Each material looks, ages and is cared for differently. Read about them here, then choose the table that suits your room.

Illustrative close-up of honed pale marble with fine grey veining and a softly finished edge.

Marble

Veined, dense, luminous.

A crystalline stone with fine or bold veining, a cool depth and a surface that takes a soft honed or a deep polished finish.

Illustrative close-up of ivory travertine with natural pores and fine mineral bands.

Travertine

Warm, porous, tactile.

A warm stone of ivory, beige and honey tones, with a linear grain and the natural cavities of its mineral origin.

Illustrative detail of cream and forest-green Moroccan geometric zellige mosaic.

Zellige

Glazed, colourful, set by hand.

A glazed clay tile, cut into small geometric pieces and set side by side into a pattern. The colour and the shine come from the glaze. Zellige is not stone, and it is cared for differently.

Good to know

Natural materials, never identical.

Veining, tone, pores and texture vary from one block of stone to the next, and the tone of a zellige tile varies from one tile to the next, so a piece will not match a picture exactly. That variation is the character of the material, not a defect. Each material also asks for slightly different care: see Care & Maintenance.
