FAQ

Answers to the questions we are asked most about our furniture, bespoke pieces, shipping, care and the trade programme.

Our pieces

What is the difference between marble, travertine and zellige?

Marble is a crystalline stone with pronounced veining and a deep, cool or warm tone. Travertine is warmer, with fine pores and a linear grain. Both are natural stones, and both vary from one block to the next. Zellige is not stone: it is glazed clay tile, cut into small pieces and set by hand into a pattern, and its colour comes from the glaze. See Materials.

Is every piece made to order?

Yes. Every piece is made to order in Morocco. Production takes 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the piece, its size and its materials.

Do you offer samples?

No, we do not offer samples. Natural stone varies from one block to the next, and zellige varies slightly in tone from one tile to the next, so no sample can show exactly how your piece will look. Our marble, travertine and zellige pages describe each material, and we are glad to answer questions about a material or a finish before you order.

Will my piece look like the photographs?

Not exactly. Veining, tone, pores and texture vary from one block to the next, and that variation is the character of natural stone, not a defect. The same is true of zellige: the glaze and the tone vary slightly from one tile to the next.

What are the holes and cavities in travertine?

They are natural. Travertine forms around mineral springs and keeps fine pores and cavities, which can be left open for a textured surface or filled for a smoother one. Tell us which you prefer.

Honed or polished: which finish?

A honed finish is smooth and matte, and tends to hide fine wear and etching better. A polished finish is glossy and deepens the colour and veining of the stone, and shows etching and scratches more. These finishes apply to stone: zellige is glazed. The finishes available are shown on each piece.

How many people does a dining table seat?

As a general guide, a table 60 to 72 in long seats 4 to 6, 72 to 84 in seats 6 to 8, 84 to 96 in seats 8 to 10 and 96 to 120 in seats 10 to 12. These ranges are guidance only: chairs, bases and personal comfort change them. Our size tool on each dining table also shows the space left around the table in your room.

Custom and bespoke pieces

Can I order a piece to my dimensions?

Many pieces can be made to custom dimensions. Send us the size of your room and, for a dining table, the number of seats you need, and we will confirm what is possible. Start with the bespoke request.

Can I customize one of the pieces I have seen on the site?

Yes. Use “Customize this piece” on its page: the bespoke request starts from that piece, and you can change its dimensions, material, colours, finish and base. What is possible depends on the design, and we confirm it in your quotation.

Do I have to know the exact dimensions?

No. Leave a field empty if you would like our advice, or give us the size of the room and how you use it. A floor plan, a drawing or a photograph of the room all help.

How is the price of a bespoke piece decided?

Every bespoke piece is priced after we review its dimensions, material, finish and details. You receive a project quotation: no price is shown during the request.

Can I choose the exact slab?

Natural stone varies from block to block. Whether a particular slab can be chosen depends on the piece and the project: ask in your request and we will tell you what is possible.

Shipping and delivery

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Each piece is professionally prepared for export. Shipping is free to the United States and to Marrakech. For any other destination, contact us and we will tell you how delivery works. Include your postal code in your request. See Shipping & Delivery.

Is shipping included in the price?

Shipping is free to the United States and to Marrakech. For any other destination, contact us for the delivery details. Import duties and taxes depend on the destination: contact us to find out what applies.

What if my piece arrives damaged?

Note any damage to the crate on the delivery document and take photographs, then tell us within 7 days of delivery. Our Returns & claims page explains each step.

Can I return a piece if I change my mind?

You may cancel or change an order until production begins. Once production has begun, a made-to-order piece cannot be returned for a change of mind, because it is made for you. See Returns & claims.

Care

How do I look after my table?

Wipe spills quickly, keep acidic liquids (wine, citrus, vinegar) off the surface, and use coasters and trivets. Clean with a neutral cleaner and water. Read Care & Maintenance for stone, and the care section of the Zellige page for a zellige top.

Does marble stain?

Marble can absorb pigmented liquids and can be etched by acids if they are left on the surface. A honed finish tends to hide etching better than a polished one.

Is travertine suitable for a dining table?

Yes. Travertine has long been used for floors, walls and furniture. It is softer and more porous than some stones, so it benefits from careful use.

Trade

Can interior designers and architects order?

Yes. Professionals can apply to the trade programme for trade pricing, custom dimensions and specification support. Every application is reviewed personally, and no account or price is created until we have been in touch.

Can I ask about a project before applying?

Yes. You can send a bespoke request or a quote request at any time, with or without a trade application.
